2023/2024 Pack Meetings

STEM was the theme this evening. In addition to experiencing hands-on science and engineering activities, Scouts learned that working together as a team (whether in pairs, dens or as a pack) made accomplishing each task easier.

  • Pool Noodle Pipeline - Send a dozing marbles across the gym using gravity

  • Magic Ink - presented by Webelos 1. Dens learned a little chemistry, and history, as they passed messages to partners.

  • Physics Challenges

Pancake Breakfast & Scouting for Food

Pack 113 hosted a Pancake Breakfast at Medfield High School on Sunday, November 20. It was great to see so many scoutswith their families and friends enjoying the event. The event was a huge success! Not only did the scouts enjoy the food, they also FILLED the Troop 10 trailer with donations from the Scouting for Food Drive! These items will help local families in need. A big thank you to all of the volunteers who made this event happen!

Rocket Day

We had a fantastic turnout for the 2022 Rocket Day. Scouts were able to show off their skills by launching the rockets that they made into the sky!! It’s always fun to see the scouts chase their homemade rockets around McCarthy field, especically when the weather cooperates like it did this year.

Carnival

On Wednesday, October 12 the Webelos and Bear Dens hosted a carnival at the Dale Street School. Webelos scouts created games for Bears to participate in. Bear scouts were able to go to each station and complete the games. Once the cards were completed, they were turned in for a prize!

Webelos II Den Meetings (2022/2023)

On this summer-like day, the Webelo 2 den gathered to complete their Stronger, Faster, Higher adventure. Getting this active group of kids to exercise was not hard! After our warm up, they practiced the 20-yard dash, vertical jumps, push-ups, sit-ups and jumping rope. This adventure also requires the Scouts to try a new sport and with the help of a den family, they learned the basics of the great game of Rugby and had a blast the whole time.

Bear Den Meetings (2021/2022)

The Bear Den met on Sunday, April 10th to go geocaching at Borderland State Park. Geocaching is like a real life treasure hunt. The Scouts used GPS to find containers (called "geocaches") that have been placed by other geocachers. A typical cache is a small waterproof container containing a log book that is signed when it is found. The Scouts had a blast learning the basics of navigation and looking for caches all over the park.

CrossOver Ceremony and Blue & Gold Celebration

Crossover Ceremony and Blue & Gold Celebration - March 5th, 2022

Pack 113 Cub Scouts and their families got together to award the Arrow of Light to the Webelos. The Arrow of Light is Cub Scouts highest award and is the only Cub Scout Award that can still be worn once a scout enters Scouts BSA.

The Senior Patrol of Troop 89 was on hand to welcome the Webelos who "cross over" to Scouts BSA. They welcomed the Scouts to their Troop by giving them the Boy Scout epaulets, a troop 89 patch, and an official Troop 89 class B T-shirt and Hat.

After the crossover ceremony, the Pack celebrated the 112th anniversary of the founding of Scouts BSA at the the Blue & Gold banquet. Cake and refreshments were served and entertainment was provided by "Solar Shelly" of Mad Science. The Scouts had a blast and learned about the laws of motion.

We were then joined by Atomic Allen who put on a fantastic Science, not magic!, show for the scouts.

Pinewood Derby 2022

Pack 113 recently participated in the 2021 Pinewood Derby, which is sometimes referred to as the Super Bowl of Cub Scouts. Each scout has the opportunity to design, build and race their very own race car. There are prizes for speed and for creativity.

This time honored scouting tradition is certainly fun. It also provides some opportunity for some great life lessons. The scouts learn wood working, design and time management skills. They have the opportunity to experiment with some of the science principles behind speed. They learn about the importance of being a good winner and loser. They experience the pride of a job well done.

Here are the results by Cub Scout group:

Lion: Fastest: A Weisse Design: M Zheng

Tiger: Fastest: A Curry Design: C Burke

Wolf: Fastest: H Devendorf Design: W Martin

Bear: Fastest: N Geishecker Design: G Lemiuex

Webelo 1: Fastest: C McDermott Design: E Frey

Webelo 2: Fastest: J Angello Design: C Frey

Sibling/Family: Fastest: K McDemott

Interpack Championship: Fastest: A Curry (Tiger) Design: R Doe (Wolf)

Treetop Adventures

Pack 113 had a great time at Treetop Adventures, which is a high ropes and obstacle course. After getting an overview of the safety precautions, the scouts were fitted for a harness and went through a guided training course. Once the orientation was complete, the Scouts were free to explore the park and go on different courses. The highlights were the zipline and the "self ropell" jump. We had a perfect fall day and after a few hours of climbing, everyone left exhausted and proud of what they accomplished. Pack 113 would highly recommend this adventure to other Scouts and families!

Webelos I Den Meetings (2021/2022)

Our Webelo 1 scouts enjoyed their first den outing of this season and got together on this beautiful fall afternoon for a Walkabout Adventure at Rocky Woods. Each of our scouts had a specific job to fulfill like trail leader and snack leader and got an introductory lesson to basic first aid. There is a lot to learn and a lot of fun to be had this year and these scouts are all ready to go!

Our Webelo 1 Den Scouts learned the essentials of being an outdoor adventurer on this perfect November afternoon. We practiced setting up tents and discussed how to prepare and be aware while being outdoors during extreme weather. We wrapped up our gathering by decorating winter themed ornaments and roasting marshmallows. A lot of fun was had by all!

The Webelo 1 Den gathered together on this beautiful winter afternoon at Rocky Woods for a winter hike and an activity as part of our Building a Better World adventure. The Scouts learned about the history of our US flag and how to properly display it in public and practiced folding the flag in the proper way. We all had a great time being outdoors and together.

Our Webelo 1 Den gathered on a sunny Sunday afternoon at the Fin, Fur & Feather Club in Millis to learn essential Outdoor Adventure skills. Huge thanks to Sean Murphy and Boy Scout Troop 89 who not only allowed us to join their outing, but set up and led activities for our Cub Scouts. Presentations on pocket knife safety, wood cutting/ax safety and outdoor fire safety were followed by a few very fun and competitive rounds of gaga ball.

The Webelos gathered on this warm late Spring evening for an introduction to our Looking Forward/Looking Back Adventure with a hike around the Medfield State Hospital grounds.  We talked about the history and significance of the State Hospital and the exciting future plans for a few of the buildings.  We also hiked the trail along the Charles River and learned how to identify and stay away from poison ivy!
